Jonathan Pollard, who became a free man last Friday after all restrictions imposed on him were released upon his release from U.S. jail, posted photos in which he was seen removing the electronic handcuff.

"Thirty years ago, my beloved wife Esther first found her way to me at Marion Prison, the most guarded prison in the United States, where I was imprisoned in a 3-story underground dungeon behind 13 locks and keys.

Against all odds, Esther came to me, cut the handcuffs over my heart and brought my soul back to life.

"This was the time when the struggle for freedom began for the first time," he said.

Pollard added: "Today, Esther cut the electronic handcuff from my arm (with the permission of the authorities), thus giving me back my almost complete freedom. The last step to freedom remains a return home, to the land and people we love, and with the help of the name it will happen very soon. The wonderful people in Israel and the United States who have fought for us over the long years on the road to freedom.

We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the letters you have sent us and in particular for your prayers throughout the years. "

Finally, and due to Esther's complex medical condition, we thank our friends and family for understanding our need to go through the time spent in the US as quietly and calmly as possible, and immigrate to Israel in a way that will ensure Esther's continued treatment as effectively as possible. I have to focus on taking care of my beloved wife, and rebuilding our lives after all the years we have not had it. "

Pollard wanted to thank the doctors who he said worked to save Esther's life when they did not have medical insurance and there was no other person who could be contacted for help.

"These wonderful doctors have become a family for us and with their help we can prepare for as smooth a transition as possible for further medical treatment for Esther and me in Israel. Special thanks to the late Rabbi Avraham Lider, who worked tirelessly to bring us together with our amazing medical staff.

We love you very much and send a big hug to you all. "
