Who will represent environmentalists in the 2022 presidential election?
EELV supporters will nominate their candidate in a primary by the end of September, the party said on Sunday.
"The ballot would take place before September 30, 2021 and could present the candidates who have received the sponsorships of the members of the Council of the ecological pole, composed of delegates of the partner formations, specified the spokespersons of EELV. , Eva Sas and Alain Coulombel, in a press release.
Three declared candidates
For the time being, three personalities from the environmental movement have applied: the former vice-president of the Hauts-de-France region and head of EELV Sandrine Rousseau, the mayor of Grenoble Eric Piolle and the MEP Yannick Jadot .
The latter had won the previous ecological primary in November 2016. He had finally withdrawn to support the socialist Benoît Hamon.
An alliance at the time approved by the Greens.
This designation and the development of the political project for the presidential election will be open to all on condition of adhering to "a charter of ecological values", the spokespersons said.
It will also be necessary to pay "a participation at free price from 1 euro".
Political openness
EELV's “roadmap” for the presidential election also plans to open “from next week the dialogue around their proposals with their partners from the environmental pole”.
The party will also propose to them to participate in "a process of creation, in several stages, of a new force of political ecology" the aim of which is "to welcome all those ready to commit to bring environmentalists to the highest responsibilities ”.
The ecological training is convinced that the alternation to Emmanuel Macron, "could not be built without a gathering of environmentalists, lefts and citizen movements".
