The circumstances for independent musicians were difficult even before Corona.

The Moosburger rock band Pickdust still does their thing.

A portrait.

Moosburg

- Your musical mix is concise and can be best described as a blend of Creedence Clearwater Revival and Motörhead.

Despite the lack of stages and rehearsal rooms everywhere, the Moosburg formation Pickdust cannot be beaten: Rock'n'Roll will never die, as Neil Young already knew.

The times for bands are currently not good due to the pandemic situation - however, there was already a lack of independent stages and venues for subculture beyond the usual mainstream concert series.

Despite all the adversities, Andi Ploner launched the band Pickdust in 2016, thereby also proving how multifaceted the Moosburg music scene can be.

The sound is rough, they themselves describe it as riff rock with guitars in the foreground of the musical message: their songs are loosely coupled to the John Fogerty cosmos, road stories set to music with cross-references to the old heroes of music history.

After the first gig in Altdorf (Landshut district) it was clear: the sound would be good.

Andi Ploner himself has been involved with music since early childhood, plays in several other bands and also writes the songs for Pickdust.

The requirements of the guitarist and singer: In addition to the music, the lyrics must also reflect the soul of the artist - both positively and negatively.

So “Roots” turns out to be the central song and initial spark of the band, and according to his own statements, he carried the riff around with him for ten years.

The 35-year-old, who works full-time as a forester, also knows that it is becoming more and more difficult to get audiences enthusiastic about your own songs - especially because there are no performance locations, and not only in Moosburg.

Thanks to the Moosburg Music Initiative (MIMO), at least a cheap rehearsal room could be found - however, Pickdust, like numerous other bands, currently has to do without rehearsing due to the corona contact restrictions.

“It's a long dry spell,” Ploner regrets, also because the band rehearsals in particular gave him a high level of motivation to continue.

The sound led by Ploners Les Paul formidably outlines a David Lynch sound world, convinces completely with “You are not alone” and offers a ghostly backdrop for midnight.

“Ride on”, on the other hand, is a “biker boogie” in full swing, the guitar is no longer that far removed from Billy Gibbons - the trio here puts on great cinema of the spectacle without being affected.

So their songs shimmer and convince with their uncompromising attitude: Here is a band that can do something.

Congenially formed by Markus Reif on drums and Andi Beck on bass, who will be leaving the band soon.

Band is looking for reinforcement

Pickdust is looking for a new bass player.
