The Pantin mosque gave pledges on Monday 23 November before the Council of State to obtain its reopening by denying that it was a place of "

the entryism of radical Islam

", one of the arguments of the government which closed it for six months after the assassination of Samuel Paty.

The parties took refuge behind the arguments put forward during the first hearing before the administrative tribunal of Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis).

The latter validated, in his ordinance of October 27, the prefectural decree closing the Pantin mosque for six months.

The authorities had criticized this mosque for having shared, on October 9 on its Facebook page, the video of a father of a student from a college in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines) indignant after a course on freedom of expression provided by Samuel Paty.

This video is at the origin of the macabre gear that led to the assassination of the professor of history and geography on October 16.

During the appeal hearing before the Council of State, Mohammed Henniche, head of the mosque and also president of the Muslim Federation of Pantin, through his advice, put forward guarantees for a faster reopening of the place of worship which accommodates around 1,500 faithful.

The controversial imam, "

involved in the radical Islamist movement of Ile-de-France

" according to the order of the administrative court, "withdrew" from his activities and a replacement has been found, said Vincent Brengarth , one of the lawyers of this Federation.

The mosque is “

frequented by radicalized individuals

” and, “

being president of the mosque, Henniche cannot ignore it,

” said Pascale Léglise, the representative of the Ministry of the Interior.

It is impossible to individually control each faithful, the majority of whom are moderate, retorted Mohammed Henniche, who undertook, with quotes in support, to install a video protection system at the entrance to the site.

"

We have changed imam, very well, take into account the wages, present them to the prefecture and we will see if they are sufficient

", declared Léglise, before estimating that "

for the moment it is not is not the case

”.

"

We are at the maximum of what we can do, we can not go further,

" assured William Bourdon, the other lawyer for the Federation, who denounced a "

supervision

" of the mosque and a decision taken "

in the runaway and the haste

" following the attack which targeted Samuel Paty.

The decision will be made on Wednesday morning.
