The Lod District Court today (Monday) convicted Yair Binyaminov, 53, of Modi'in, of murder, arson and aggravated robbery of the late businessman Boris Buttershvili that occurred in Lod about two years ago. Binyaminov was also convicted of obstruction of justice.
As previously reported here, the late Buttershvili was robbed, shot dead and buried in the Modiin Forest in 2018. The prosecution has petitioned for life imprisonment and hearings will be held on the arguments for punishment.
Attorney Gal Rosenzweig, who handled the case on behalf of the prosecution, said after the conviction: "The court accepted our position and convicted the defendant of aggravated murder and other offenses. "The deceased buried his body in the forest and set his vehicle on fire. All this, in order to obscure his actions."
He said, "During the proceedings, the defendant tried to" sew "false accusations against the deceased, while all the evidence showed that the deceased was a loved one and a loved one of the community. Unfortunately, the relatives of the deceased had to absorb these allegations throughout the proceedings, without being able to respond. These allegations out of hand, and put things right.
"Because the defendant was convicted of murder in aggravated circumstances, the punishment that will be imposed on him is compulsory life imprisonment."
Recall that the murder was solved in June 2018 and then also an indictment was filed against Binyaminov.
The material of the investigation revealed that there had been a long-standing acquaintance between the victim and the defendant, against the background of a business in the field of jewelry production and sale.
Investigators also discovered that on the day of his disappearance, Boris met with Binyaminov in Lod, and from there drove to the suspect's home in Modi'in.
When the two arrived at the home parking lot, Binyaminov fired a number of bullets at Buttersville and caused his death.
The suspect then took his body to the Ben Shemen forest, covered it with a pile of stones and drove the deceased's vehicle to Lod, where he set it on fire.
The suspect was arrested about two hours after Buttersville's absence was announced.
