One constant stayed the whole time.

Puchheim

- The parish church Maria Himmelfahrt in Puchheim-Ort has changed its appearance several times over the centuries.

It was expanded, redesigned and even rebuilt.

The church tower remained a constant throughout its history.

It is of Gothic origin, probably from the 13th century and is one of the oldest church towers in the entire district.

The parish itself is even older and is considered the original parish.

It was mentioned for the first time in 1315 in the so-called Konradinischen matriculation of the Diocese of Freising, which lists all episcopal goods with their income.

Until 1824, the Puchheim parish also included the Steinkirchen branch church with the village of Planegg and the Maria Eich pilgrimage church.

Hoflach and the parish of Puchheim-Bahnhof were also part of the Maria Himmelfahrt parish until 1925 and 1963, respectively.

The rectory can also look back on a long history.

It was built around 1684, making it the oldest building in Puchheim after the church tower.

This included the parsonage with a not inconsiderable economy, which was managed by the respective pastor until 1868.

The church nave in its current form, on the other hand, was built in 1928. The previous building with its baroque furnishings had already been expanded in 1785 because the Laurenzi church on today's Eichenauer Strasse had been demolished.

In April 1928 the church, which had become too small for the community, was completely demolished, except for the tower.

The foundation stone was laid in June and Cardinal Michael Faulhaber was able to inaugurate the new church in September.

The construction costs borne by the population of Puchheim amounted to 70,000 Reichsmarks.

It was a so-called hall building, i.e. an interior without supporting columns, with a retracted choir.

A number of furnishing elements such as the baptismal font, the figures of saints and the pews came from the previous church.

Church was perceived as bare

Three interior renovations have taken place since the new building.

In 1953 and 1976, among other things, the high altar and the side altars were removed.

In 2002 the interior was given its current design.

The church was felt to be cold and bare, many figures of saints hung lonely on large, white walls.

In addition, many elements stood side by side without any recognizable structure.

From 1996 to 1998 the parish developed a concept for a redesign.

The font was taken out of its shadowy existence and positioned more centrally.

Above it is a light blue circle as a sign of the sky.

The existing paintings by Michael Weingartner were integrated into a color concept: there are light blue elements between the lighter ceiling paintings.

The Stations of the Cross, on the other hand, hang on the side walls at the rear of the church.

They are dark and a counterpoint to the sky blue on the ceiling.

That runs through the whole room.

In the lower area, the colors are heavier, darker, but also warmer.

The colors light up further up and become brighter, but also cooler.

The figures of saints were rearranged in such a way that they complement the pictures and the church interior can be experienced as a whole for the faithful.

Those responsible withdrew from moving the altar, which was also under discussion.

For this they decided to install a new organ.

The parish church and rectory are now under monument protection.
