Arrived last in the Vendée Globe 2016-207, Sébastien Destremau alerted the race management on Tuesday to report a “major keel damage” to his Merci monohull.
The boat and the sailor are not in danger, according to the Vendée Globe press service.
At the time of his serious damage, Sébastien Destremau was sailing in the doldrums and was classified in 30th position.
He was sailing close to Clément Giraud (Compagnie du Lit / Jiliti), Ari Huusela (Stark) and Alexia Barrier.
The Toulonnais made people talk about him during this round the world tour by installing a cardboard cap which did not hold up for long.
