The United States Attorney General (GSA) announced tonight (Tuesday) to President-elect Joe Biden that he can begin the process of transitioning between the administration of incumbent President Donald Trump and the new administration.

In doing so, Biden was officially declared the winner of the presidential election.

Trump, who has yet to acknowledge the victory of his Democratic rival, ordered his team to cooperate with Biden's, but made it clear that the legal battle he is waging against the results will continue.

The federal agency's announcement came about an hour after Michigan's official announcement of Biden as the state's winner, and constitutes official approval for his team to use funds from the state budget for the process, as well as receive briefings from official officials.

Shortly after the announcement, the president-elect announced that his first meeting with senior government officials would deal with the Corona plague and national security issues.

"In the coming days, the transition team will begin meeting with federal officials to discuss responses to the epidemic, gain a full understanding of the interests of our national security and fully understand the Trump administration's attempts to empty government agencies," said Biden's transition team chief Johannes Abraham.

In response to the announcement, President Trump announced that he had instructed his staff to cooperate with the procedure and that he thanked the head of the GSA, Emily Murphy for her dedicated work.

However, he clarified that this did not end his legal battle against the election results.

"I want to thank Emily Murphy for her loyal devotion and loyalty to our country. She has been harassed, threatened and abused - and I do not want to see this happen to her, her family or GSA staff," he tweeted minutes after the announcement.

"Our claim continues strongly. We will continue to give a good fight, and I believe we will prevail."

However, Trump, in what may be construed as a first step toward admitting a loss, made it clear that "nevertheless, for the good of the state, I urge Emily and her team to do what needs to be done in terms of protocols, and I have instructed my team to do the same."

GSA chief Murphy clarified in response that she was not pressured to make the decision.

"I want you to hear this from me directly. I have never been under pressure regarding the substance or timing of my decision," she said in the letter.

"The decision was mine alone."
