The police earlier revised the definition of "media representative" under the General Police Regulations to include media organizations that have registered with the Information Services Department, the press release system, or internationally recognized and well-known non-local media organizations.
A female online media reporter pointed out that after the definition was revised, the identity of an online media reporter was not recognized.
She believes that the amendment violates the Basic Law and the Human Rights Law, and today (24th) went to the High Court to apply for judicial review and request the court to issue an order to cancel the amendment.
The applicant Cao Minyi, and the respondent was Director of Police Deng Bingqiang.
The applicant stated in the application that there is no difference in the nature of work between online media reporters and traditional media reporters. Therefore, they should be treated equally by relevant government departments during interviews.
