Hikers have to take a detour

A section of the Schäffler circular route above the Michelsweg in Peißenberg, which runs over private property, must now be finally deleted from the hiking maps: Despite the efforts of the community, the owners are no longer willing to let hikers run across their property.

Peißenberg

- For decades it was a popular shortcut for hikers and walkers on the way to the Hoher Peißenberg: The route from Michelsweg over the old water reserve up to the chapel of St. Michael.

In part, the route ran directly past two residential buildings over private property.

But that is now finally over.

The town hall administration made one last attempt at mediation, but the landowners retained their veto.

The road was cordoned off by the owners a good year ago.

Easements or a right of way are not granted to the municipality.

So legally nothing can be done.

The town hall administration has received several complaints over the past few months about the blocking.

"I'm also so sorry how it ended now," explains Erich Gehrmann in an interview with the local newspaper.

The property manager also shows understanding for the owners: “Too much has happened.

Personally, I would not have acted otherwise. "

The list of misconduct by “a few”, as Gehrmann puts it, is long.

For example, dog owners threw poop bags on the residents' terrace or hung on the branches in the garden.

Even mountain bikers thundered wildly over the property.

"With more consideration, it shouldn't have come to that," says Gehrmann.

The town hall administration has of course given thought to alternative routes.

The simplest variant would have been to use the extension of the Michelsweg along the stream.

But here, too, you would need the consent of the private owners - and they refused with thanks: “You can't just put the problem on other residents,” says Gehrmann.

Only the water management office has a right of way there.

The administration has also considered a route from the current elevated tank down towards the outskirts.

"But the terrain is too steep there - and you would end up on a private road again," explains Gehrmann.

Now hikers have to take the 700 meter longer “diversion” over the tar road at the “Schweiber” farm.

In Gehrmann's opinion, this is a reasonable detour: “Hikers are on their way to hike.

It also gives you more opportunities to experience Peißenberg. "

The search for alternative routes has now been stopped in the town hall.

As a member of the “Hiking Trail Association” you cannot constantly identify new trails because the internet forums and maps have to be changed accordingly, says Gehrmann.

The signage also has to show a certain durability at some point.

And the hikers really would have enough choice of routes - even without the closed section on the Schäfflerweg.

Gehrmann: "A thousand ways lead to the Hohen Peißenberg."
