, advanced on Monday in the conformation of his cabinet with the announcement of several high positions including the confirmation that Antony Blinken will be his secretary of state.
The election of Blinken, a seasoned diplomat who was number two in the State Department, indicates a return to multilateralism after Donald Trump's strategy of distancing himself from Washington's traditional allies.
The president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, appointed former Foreign Minister
John Kerry
as special delegate for climate affairs and
Alejandro Mayorkas
as Secretary of Homeland Security, who will thus be the first of Latino origin to hold that position, reported the office of the next agent in a statement.
As the local media had already advanced, inda Thomas-Greenfield as ambassador to the UN.
Jake Sullivan
will be a national security adviser.
And
Avril Haines,
director of national intelligence.
The announcement includes several novelties: Mayorkas, former undersecretary of national security, would be the first Latino to lead the Department of Homeland Security;
