It took a long time, but now it is done: Last Friday, the initiators of the citizens' initiative against the planned DIY store in Peiting handed 1200 signatures to Mayor Peter Ostenrieder.

Whether or not there will be a referendum will be decided in a special meeting of the municipal council.

Peiting

- The folder that Judith Hieber and Anna-Maria Fedisch had in their luggage on Friday morning on their way to the Peiting town hall was filled to the brim.

The content: 1200 signatures from citizens who are against the construction of the planned V-Baumarkt on Zeißlerweg in the market town.

Around 860 signatures are required for a referendum in Peiting, and the two initiators are accordingly optimistic that they have met the quorum.

Until then, of course, it had been a long way.

After the failed first referendum, the DIY store opponents announced a second attempt in July.

At the time, it was said confidently that they wanted to have the necessary signatures together by the summer vacation.

"It took longer than expected," stated Hieber.

So it was quite a precision landing on Friday, because today, Tuesday, the municipal council should have passed the constitutional resolution for the new special area.

The chances of a successful referendum would have been drastically reduced.

Statute resolution for the development plan is canceled

There will be no such item on the agenda now.

"We will remove him, if only for reasons of fairness," said Mayor Peter Ostenrieder when he personally received the signature lists in the town hall.

In the coming week one wants to check the formalities, the question and the submitted signatures as soon as possible, both internally in the administration and externally by a law firm.

Already for Tuesday, December 1st, the town hall chief announced a special meeting of the municipal council, in which it should decide on the admissibility of the referendum.

Because the interest is likely to be great, the committee will meet in the multi-purpose hall instead of in the Sparkasse hall.

As far as the opponents of the project had been before.

In June, the local council had rejected the first petition against the new construction store at the same place, among other things because of the question aimed at the sale of the property.

On the other hand, there is still a lawsuit before the administrative court about when it will be decided, but according to Fedisch's lawyer Peter Duvinage it is still open.

The initiators are therefore better prepared for the second attempt.

The referendum had been checked by two specialist lawyers, said Hieber and Fedisch on Friday.

"Of course we are now relying on everything to fit together."

Citizens' decision is expected in late January or early February

If the municipal council declares the referendum to be admissible on December 1st, a referendum must be made within three months.

"I assume that we will then consider a date at the end of January or the beginning of February," said Ostenrieder.

As in the summer with the referendum on the new building of the Marienheim, this time too, the vote is mainly to be carried out by postal vote.

Then the Peitinger finally have the last word in the big debate: DIY store yes or no?
