The Houthi rebels in Yemen said today (Monday) that they had hit an oil rig in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah with a new cruise missile, in response to continued attacks by the Saudi coalition.
The announcement by the pro-Iranian Shiite rebels came hours after the end of the G20 virtual conference, which was followed by a secret meeting between Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Riyadh has not yet confirmed any damage, but videos posted on social media documented a fire at a facility in the city in the early hours of the night.
Houthi spokesman General Yahya Saria said the new missile was a Quds-2 model and he posted a satellite image that matched the location of an Aramco facility in northern Jeddah, where oil products are stored in tankers.
The facility is located southwest of King Abdullah International Airport, which serves as an entrance gate for pilgrims wishing to reach the nearby city of Mecca.
From the videos, it does appear that this is a facility, and police vehicles were documented along the road near the facility, to the sound of sirens.
In the morning, however, passers-by were unable to detect damage to the tank farms.
