The festival season at Tegernsee was ultimately canceled in the Corona year.

In an interview, he explains how the event manager at Tegernseer Tal Tourismus GmbH, Peter Rie, fared.

We're in second lockdown.

There was no lake festival, no forest festival, the colorful life at Tegernsee stands still.

How are you as an event manager without events?

Our team is already busy!

Actually, we now have even more administrative work.

Only at the very beginning of the first corona lockdown was it quieter when everyone went to the home office.

But soon we had to take care of checking the current hygiene regulations, rescheduling or canceling the dates of events and then of course checking and adjusting the contracts.

The events in the Winners Lounge, for example, are always planned for the long term, as the artists had busy schedules.

In the meantime we had to change the dates several times and will probably only be able to start again in the Winners Lounge in the second half of 2021.

As reported, the Advent Magic will hardly be able to take place.

What else did you have in store?

One example was the “Day of Brass Music at Home”.

Immediately after the restrictions were first relaxed, we tried new formats in the digital sector.

That went very well.

We had the "virtual regulars table" in the Bräustüberl, we installed the drive-in cinema and digitized the holiday program.

That had gone well in the past few years, without Corona we might have continued like this a little longer.

But we just changed the system more quickly and implemented new software in order to be able to make the offer.

There is more digital, less paper.

The biggest challenge was the Open International Bavarian Chess Championship (OIBM).

After the new concept was finally in place after extensive organization, the event had to be canceled and an alternative concept for the alternative concept had to be quickly developed.

The OIBM finally became the Tegernsee Masters with ten international top players, including places one to four in the German ranking list.

The event was broadcast online around the world for nine days;

the response was huge.

And when Covid-19 is defeated and a vaccine has been distributed, will you go back to big events like the forest and lake festival?

No, personally I don't think next year it will be the way it was.

We also have to ask ourselves whether we still want and need major events in the Tegernsee Valley of the previous magnitude.

We do the Montgolfiade in January, but without a public supporting program and only with balloon rides.

Together with many service providers and the municipalities, several workshops on the subject of "Improving the quality of events in the Tegernsee Valley" will take place until spring.

Among other things, topics such as security concepts at major events, sustainability, climate change, potential and target groups are processed and discussed here.

2021 is the year of culture on the calendar.

Our challenge now is to develop this under the new conditions that will be with us for some time to come.
