A 44-year-old man who raped a minor relative was sentenced to 15 years in prison
Alon Aharonov raped and committed sexual offenses on the 15-year-old complainant for about 9 months, and took advantage of her and her mother's financial dependence on him.
His defense attorney asked for a sentence of up to 7 years for his deteriorating mental condition, but the judges were not convinced: "The values he harmed are part of the basic moral fabric of society."

The Tel Aviv District Court sentenced Alon Aharonov, 44, who was convicted of rape, sodomy and other sexual offenses against his family member while she was a minor, to 15 years in prison.
Aharonov carried out the acts for about nine months, while his relative was 15. The sentence stated that he threatened her that if she did not accede to his demands or expose his actions, he would stop financially supporting her and her terror, "until they were left homeless."
"The protected values that the defendant violated, ie protecting minors and maintaining their dignity, their physical and mental well-being from exploitation and harm, are an essential part of the basic moral fabric of human society, and the most important values that society commands to protect," wrote Justices Raanan Ben Yosef, Bnei Sagi and Irit. Kalman Brom in sentencing.
The plaintiff in the case, Adv. Yael Harel of the Tel Aviv District Attorney's Office (criminal), sought to aggravate with Aharonov and pointed out the number of cases in which he committed the offenses, their frequency and severity. She sought a sentence of 14 to 18 years in prison.

On the other hand, Aharonov's defense attorney asked to be satisfied with 7-4 years in prison, claiming that he did not threaten to physically harm his relative, and also that his mental state has deteriorated since the affair was exposed, as well as his financial situation.
The judges completely rejected the defense's claim, ruling that Aharonov's "credit" could not be attributed to the fact that he did not use force when he took advantage of the minor's financial distress.
The sentence further states that "the punishment should reflect the society's deep disgust at these acts and its anxiety about the fate of the victims, and at the same time also deter criminals."
Thus, they decided to sentence him to 15 years in prison, and compensation of 160,000 shekels to his relative.
The court even accepted last Thursday the request of the prosecution to allow the publication of Aharonov's name.
However, he forbade the publication of any details that might lead to the identification of the minor, including the type of family connection between them.
