Europeans more responsible for buying fakes and hacking

According to a report published by the European Union Intellectual Property Office, the purchase of counterfeit products has been on the decline for three years, as has intentional piracy.


While with the rise of the internet, counterfeiting has exploded and this Christmas period is conducive to purchases of all kinds, a report published by the European Union Office for Intellectual Property shows encouraging results in consumer responsibility.

Fewer Europeans want to buy counterfeit products or access pirated material.

According to this survey of 25,636 EU residents, the purchase of counterfeit products has been declining for three years (from 7 to 5%), as has intentional piracy (from 10 to 8%).

The purchase of counterfeit products has returned to its 2013 level. The French, for their part, are only 3% to give in, ie twice less than in 2017. Moreover, during the last twelve months, 42% of Europeans have paid for accessing, downloading or distributing copyrighted content online.

That's 17% more.

An encouraging change in behavior, even if those under 25 still “fish” twice as much as their elders.
