Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov confirmed that the US imposition of sanctions against three Russian companies under the Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction Act is an illegal measure.
"Actions of this kind are illegal because no country has the right to restrict Russia's commercial and investment dealings with other members of the international community," Russian Sputnik news agency quoted Antonov as saying, expressing his conviction that the aim of the aforementioned American measure is to destroy the economic capabilities of Russian companies.
He added, "The talk is about a new discriminatory step by Washington, which has adopted sanctions as a basic tool to practice its foreign political approach, and that this unconstructive approach does not help improve the atmosphere in Russian-American relations," calling on the United States to abandon its corrupt practices of making unfounded accusations. Rather than pursuing diplomatic political methods.
The US State Department issued a statement saying that on November 6, the United States took a decision to punish five foreign companies, three of them Russian, for allegedly violating the Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction Act.
