More than half of Americans (51%) now say it is somewhat likely or very likely that they will take a first-generation vaccine against COVID-19 as soon as it becomes available, according to the results of a new survey released on Wednesday Tuesday by Axios-Ipsos.

This is a six point increase from last week and a 14 point increase from the end of September.

70% of those surveyed said they would likely receive a vaccine if public health officials proved it was safe and effective, according to the survey.

This was based on a nationally representative sample of 1,002 American adults and took place between November 20 and 20.

"Among some groups that are least likely to get a vaccine, namely Blacks and Republicans, the majority report that they would receive a vaccine endorsed by public health officials," Ipsos said in a statement.

65% of those surveyed said they would likely take a vaccine if drug companies deemed it more than 90% effective.

Now more Americans - 47% - believe a vaccine will be ready within the next three months.

This is 15 percentage points more than a week ago.
