The year of the corona that we are in the midst of still illustrates to us every day how many effects can be on the prevailing disease among us, and in the world at large.

It is precisely against this background that it is important to remember - violence is also a disease, at times even a contagious disease.

But even in front of her there are ways in which it is right to act to reduce its scope.

Today (Wednesday) marks the International Day for the Prevention of Violence against Women, one of the most ugly and disturbing manifestations of violent behavior.

Violence against women is, unfortunately, a common sight in our country, too common.

Seemingly an expression of power, a misrepresentation of control - but in fact an expression of the power of cowards, of the choice of the weak.

Violence against women is not a decree from heaven.

It can be dealt with and needs to be dealt with.

Encouragement can be drawn from the rising awareness in our society of the condemnation of the violent, and of the detection of violent conduct, sometimes even before the blunt words become a physical act.

And yet - the long road to success in a broader and deeper struggle against this dangerous phenomenon is long.

One of the first and most correct arenas in which it is right to act in this context is the education system.

Yes, here too, it all starts with education.

Violence prevention education begins with instilling the values of patience and tolerance.

It is founded on a discourse of mutual respect, of friendship, of a healthy relationship.

The more we demonstrate to our students how to behave and behave towards the other from an early age, the more we can ensure that as adults we encounter fewer cases of violence against women, and in general.

The classroom framework in itself provides the student with opportunities to experience situations and experiences that will allow him or her to examine different patterns of conduct, even in a marital relationship.

The classroom routine, which is so important to the educational practice, can provide tools for resolving conflicts in the relationship, moderating the responses and perfecting the person's skills for dealing with different situations.

Teachers and educators naturally have an important role to play in this context as well.

First and foremost - the way they behave towards their students, and no less - towards their colleagues.

Students who look up to them, and rightly so, must see before their eyes a responsible adult who is also a model of patience, tolerance, mutual respect and grazing.

From my many acquaintances and encounters with our teaching staff - they are certainly an example of this.

Here, too, it all starts with education.

In addition to fulfilling our responsibilities as educators, it is important that our children are surrounded by a wide range of examples of respectful conduct in other areas as well: whether it is a youth movement instructor or a coach in a basketball club - Where they operate - as human beings, as colleagues, as spouses.

This approach, which strengthens educational involvement as a tool for combating violence against women, should be implemented more widely and significantly in the education system - and it will be done.
