Update from November 25th, 9:58 a.m.:
Apparently there was confusion about when the federal government
would like to start
the
Christmas holidays
.
On Tuesday evening there was talk that these were already planned for December 16 (see update, November 25, 10:10 p.m.).
In the
resolution proposed by the federal states
, December 19 was mentioned.
In the
federal resolution proposal
, however, December 19 is also planned and not December 16.
The journalist Michael Bröcker referred to this on Twitter.
Confusion in the Chancellery at @HBraun and in some agency reports.
The Christmas holidays should NOT be brought forward to December 16 (a Wednesday!) But to December 19.

Update from November 25, 9:50 a.m.:
The FDP domestic politician
Konstantin Kuhle
is in favor of a long-term
corona strategy
.
"We can already see that the first owners of shops give up, that simply the courage and hope are slowly being lost," he said on the RTL program
Guten Morgen Deutschland
.
“That's why we finally need a long-term strategy until spring.” He warned against
letting even fewer customers into the shops
before
Christmas
.
"This is a desolation program for the inner cities," said Kuhle.
“If shops have a functioning
hygiene concept
, then it cannot be explained why the number of customers should be reduced further now.
The Prime Ministers and the Federal Chancellor urgently need to rework this. "
"It needs a clear perspective until spring," said
Katrin Göring-Eckardt
(Greens) in a list of demands from which the newspapers of the
editorial network in Germany
quoted.
“The federal and state governments are not allowed to drive on sight again, a plan for a few weeks is not enough.”
Karl Lauterbach also commented

Corona situation

Corona summit with Merkel: press conference in the afternoon live
Update from November 25th, 9.25 am:
"I very much hope that not everyone is driving all over the country," said
Katrin Göring-Eckardt
, leader of the
Greens
, in the ARD
morning magazine
on Wednesday with regard to Christmas.
The festival will have to be celebrated differently than usual.
Update from November 25, 8:11 a.m.:
The Greens parliamentary group leader in the Bundestag,
Katrin Göring-Eckardt
, has called for long-term and nationwide uniform
corona rules
.
“What we need is first of all transparency and honesty.
And we need perspective.
And that means that we have
risk levels
, ”she said on Wednesday morning in the
ARD morning magazine.
The rules should apply uniformly nationwide and be
applied on site
depending on the
infection rate
.
The debates between the countries in the past few weeks have led to
uncertainty
among the people.
“You lose the overview and you lose your nerve,” said Goering-Eckardt.
Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder
spoke out in favor of strict
contact restrictions,
including on
New Year's Eve
, prior to the deliberations between the state leaders and Angela Merkel
- unlike most countries striving for.
"Because Christmas is the festival of the family, New Year's Eve is of course more the festival of friends," said the CSU boss (also in the
ARD morning magazine
). He would rather be more consistent over the turn of the year than over Christmas.
A press conference is planned for the late afternoon - as usual, you can follow it live here.
Merkel invites you to the summit today: "Please not too complicated" - clear corona rules required
Update from November 25th, 5.57 a.m.:
The
German Association of Cities is
calling
for clearer
communication
between the
federal
and state
governments
in the
corona crisis
.
"We need good communication so that the
partial lockdown
is accepted further," said the President of the German Association of Cities, Burkhard Jung (SPD), of the "Rheinische Post" (Wednesday edition) before the
top round
of the federal and state governments.
"The rules have to be simple and understandable for people, so please not overly complicated."
Only if the decisions are clear and comprehensible, "we have the chance that the vast majority will continue to participate and
limit
their
contacts
," said the SPD politician.
The
video switching
of the federal and state governments is particularly important this time, “not just because it was so jerky last time”.
Especially at
Christmas time
, people wanted to know what to expect, said Jung about the advice on the Corona rules.
"You want to
plan and enjoy
the holidays and the
turn of
the
year
as carefree as possible in the
pandemic
."
But still a dispute at Merkel's Corona summit?
Chancellery wants to tighten corona rules - Söder is also calling for more
Update from November 24th, 10:10 p.m.:
How turbulent will the next
Corona summit with Chancellor Angela Merkel be
?
The
federal states
wanted to do better after the dispute over quite arbitrary draft resolutions by the Chancellery in the previous edition.
Coordinations between the state chancelleries and papers on the corona rules have been going on for days.
But on the evening before the meeting, there is still unrest.
Because the Chancellery has once again called for improvements - the states denied reports that these ideas are already consensus among them.
According to the ideas in Merkel's house, the aim is to ensure that there are
no more than
one customer per 25 square meters of sales
area
in
shops
- according to the previous Corona rules, it is one customer per ten square meters.
In order to make travel safer, the
number of occupied seats on trains is to be
significantly reduced.
In principle, only all window seats should be bookable for the winter months.
At the same time, however, the capacity of the trains is to be increased.
In the evening it was also said that the federal government wanted to start the
Christmas holidays
in
schools
as early as December
16
.
In a submission by the federal states, December
19 is mentioned
.
It is undisputed: The
partial lockdown that
has been in force since the beginning of November
with the closure of pubs and restaurants as well as cultural and leisure facilities is to be extended until at least December 20.
However, virologist Christian Drosten identified gaps in the current lockdown concept on Tuesday.
On Wednesday evening, however, it was still open whether there would be
easing not only for Christmas but also for New Year's Eve
- Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder is against it.
The prime ministers call for domestic self-quarantine to be carried out for several days before Christmas.
"This can be supported by the Christmas school holidays that may be preferred from December 19, 2020," says the draft of the federal states on Monday evening.
According to the ideas of the federal government,
a more generous
test option
should also be offered
for
cold symptoms before Christmas in
order to make encounters at Christmas time as safe as possible.
Corona summit in the Chancellery: Christmas will be serious on Wednesday - is Merkel sharpening it?
First report:
Berlin - On Wednesday there will be
another showdown
in the
Federal Chancellery
.
The next
corona summit
is coming up.
Chancellor Angela Merkel
* wants to discuss and decide on the further timetable in the pandemic with the prime ministers of the federal states.
All information on the development of the corona rules can be found here in the live ticker.
Corona summit in the live ticker: What the federal states have already decided
This time the virtual meeting should be much more harmonious than last time.
Corona measures were agreed in October, which
amounted to
a
partial lockdown
, but Merkel did not go far enough.
She should be proved right.
The exponential
increase in the number of Corona * infections
could be stopped, but the number of newly infected remained high.
And so the
restrictions
should be
tightened again on Wednesday.
The federal states - as it was agreed - did their homework and worked out a common position of the states on the Corona rules.
Only Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder left and called for significant tightening.
The draft decision has already leaked through.
It provides for stricter
contact
restrictions
and an expansion of the
mask requirement
from December.
Merkel summit: partial lockdown should remain - milder corona rules at Christmas?
The existing partial lockdown * with closed cultural and leisure facilities as well as catering establishments is to
remain in place
at least
until December 20th,
according to the wishes of the regional leaders
.
Tourist overnight stays should also remain prohibited.
According to the federal state resolution, a mask requirement should apply nationwide “in closed rooms that are accessible to the public or as part of visitors or customers”.
Schools and daycare centers
should generally remain open.
Contact restrictions should therefore be tightened.
"Private get-togethers with friends, relatives and acquaintances are to be limited to one's own household and one other household, but in any case to a maximum of five people," says the paper.
An exception should
apply
between December 23rd and January 1st
.
To make Christmas with the family * possible, a maximum of ten people should be allowed to come together during this period.
After NRW, Bavaria has now also brought the Christmas holidays forward.
The federal states want to ban fireworks on New Year's Eve in busy public places and streets.
Angela Merkel welcomes country resolutions - are there any further tightening of corona rules?
Merkel has meanwhile welcomed the prime ministers' proposals.
The paper on the new corona rules is good and the considerations are largely supported by the federal government, said the Chancellor on Tuesday, according to information from the
dpa
.
Nevertheless, she announced her own suggestions for reducing contact.
In countries with a particularly high infection rate, there could be even stricter measures than the state resolution provides.
There was talk of “specific measures” in some areas.
