The Ministry of Justice arrested 91 people in a number of governorates on charges of trading in subsidized materials “food and fuel” during the period extending from the tenth of this month to the present, as part of the efforts made to curb the criminal phenomena related to the exploitation of citizens in terms of tampering with their basic needs.

The Head of the Expertise Office, a member of the Legislation Department, Judge Ammar Bilal, said in a statement to SANA that the suspension of these persons comes within the framework of the Ministry's affirmation of preventing the occurrence of crimes of trafficking in subsidized materials and the implementation of its plan to suppress this phenomenon, stressing that the economic penalties law applies to all of them.

The Minister of Justice, Judge Ahmed Al-Sayed, had issued Circular No. 22 on the tenth of this month for public attorneys to follow up the cases related to these crimes according to legal means, so that each perpetrator and sinner would receive his fair punishment and deterrence to anyone who begged him to attack.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection confirmed in a statement on the 11th of this month that anyone who trades in subsidized materials will be fined one million Syrian pounds and imprisoned for a year in accordance with Article 27 of the Consumer Protection Law No. 14 of 2015 and its amendments.
