Rescuers arrived at the scene and found the missing victim in the sea. He fell into a coma and was taken back to shore for first aid. He was sent to the Eastern Hospital by ambulancemen, but died after being rescued.

The police are investigating the cause of the accident.

According to the news at the scene, the victim and seven friends went to the beach to play in the water after school. However, he was not familiar with water and was swept away by the big waves. According to information from the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the lifeguard service of Shek O Beach was suspended from November to March.

Tang Zi'an, chairman of the Hong Kong Lifesaving Staff Association, said that when lifeguard services are suspended, one or two lifeguards will stay at the beach to cope with emergencies. However, they will not be monitored in the lifeguards, so they cannot always pay attention to the sea conditions. If you are drowning, you may not be able to detect it immediately, and you must rely on other people to notify you.

Deng Zi'an believes that the government should strengthen the publicity and let the public know the locations of winter beaches with lifeguard services. "Many people don't know that there are no lifeguards on beaches in winter."

From November to March, winter beaches with lifeguard services, including Deep Water Bay Beach, Clear Water Bay Second Beach, Silverstrand Beach and Golden Beach, daily from 8 am to 5 pm Provide lifeguard services.
