If it is up to nine councilors from various factions, stumbling blocks will soon be laid in Moosburg.

These are used to remember those persecuted by the Nazi regime.

Moosburg

- They should keep those persecuted by the Nazi regime in memory: So-called stumbling blocks have already been placed in many cities.

Now a non-partisan alliance of city councilors would like Moosburg to do the same.

The project goes back to the German artist Gunter Demnig.

Since 1992 he has been laying brass stones around ten by ten centimeters in front of the last voluntarily chosen places of residence of those persecuted by the Nazi terror.

All groups of victims should be covered and it should be made visible that everyone - neighbors and friends - could become victims of injustice, deportation and murder.

Cities like Freising and Landshut have already had several stumbling blocks laid in the region.

Last year Europe had the 75,000th stone installed.

City "should set an example"

The co-signers of the application, which is addressed to the members of the City Council and Mayor Josef Dollinger under the leadership of Stefan John (Linke), belong to almost all parliamentary groups on the committee: Thomas Wittmann and Julia Neumayr (both Fresh), Martin Pschorr and Gerhard Beubl ( both SPD), Michael Stanglmaier (Greens), Jörg Kästl (ÖDP), Johann Reif (FW), Rudolf Heinz (CSU) and Philipp Fincke (FDP).

They demand that "the city of Moosburg advocates the laying of stumbling blocks in the urban area and that all legal and structural requirements should be examined".

The applicants justify the fact that there is a legitimate interest in the action in Moosburg with the historical legacy of Stalag VII A. In the course of coming to terms with this era, the city should “take the initiative here too and set an example to prevent such an injustice can never happen again ”.

As can already be seen from a letter from the organization “Association of the Persecuted of the Nazi Regime - Association of Antifascists”, there are a number of Moosburgers “who would be suitable for such a type of memorial”.

In general, the memorial points would not be set up against the will of the relatives.

The authors of the application include Heinrich Hiermeier (1907-1940, Stadtgraben 30), Koloman Wagner (1905-1944, Viehmarktstraße 6) and Alois Weiner (1872-1953, Auf dem Gries 4).
