Israel's ambassador to the UN, Gilad Ardan, addressed an official letter of complaint to the Security Council last night (Wednesday), demanding immediate action against the Iranian presence in Syria, and condemning the recent incidents in which explosive devices were placed near the border with Syria.
"The Syrian regime continues to allow Iran and its terrorist arms to use its territory to build military infrastructure and undermine stability in the region," Arden wrote to the council.
Arden added that the bombing was a serious violation of the council's decisions regarding Syria, which also posed a threat to UN forces on the ground: "Israel expects a UN investigation and reporting in accordance with council members regarding these incidents, and the return of UNDP forces to full operation in their positions."
"Israel considers the Syrian regime responsible for any Iranian terrorist activity leaving its territory, and will respond by all means to protect its residents. The Security Council must condemn these incidents and demand that Iran withdraw from Syria immediately," Ambassador Arden added.
Arden added that Iranian terrorism spreading in Syria and the region could degenerate the entire region into a heavy fire that would carry a heavy blood price, and he expects the Security Council to hold an urgent discussion on the Iranian presence in Syria and its severe impact on the Middle East.
