District -

violence against women is omnipresent, often in one's own family too.

The BRK women's refuge in the district of Erding fights this violence every day and helps women and their children to find their way back into a self-determined life.

Today's International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is taking place worldwide.

The United Nations proclaimed him after the murder of three women in the Dominican Republic, in particular to remind state actors of their responsibility to protect girls and women.

On November 25, 1960, three dissident sisters were mistreated and murdered on the Caribbean island.

In 1961, Latin American feminists made this date the Day of Resistance Against Violence Against Women.

In 1999 it was named International Day of Action by the United Nations.

Violence against women and girls in various forms still exists today, also in Europe, also in Germany and also in the district of Erding.

The Erding women's shelter, sponsored by the BRK district association, is a refuge for women and their children affected by violence.

It helps them on their way to a life without fear and violence.

The BRK also operates an intervention center and the women's emergency number.

There is also the relatively new second stage area.

The intervention center is a counseling center for those affected by domestic violence or stalking.

Information, advice and active support are intended to protect those affected from further attacks and acts of violence.

The intervention center has the task of contacting people affected by domestic violence after police intervention and of offering them support.

In addition, those affected or their relatives can contact the counseling center independently with any questions.

In the Second Stage, women are housed in normal apartments and receive outpatient support from the BRK.

This is a step after the women's refuge and before complete independence.

The women's emergency number is manned around the clock.

"Women and girls receive help day and night from the women's refuge team of the Red Cross", emphasizes BRK spokeswoman Danuta Pfanzelt.

That is also why the team needs voluntary support.

Anyone who would like to help can send an email to Frauenhaus@kverding.brk.de.

Actually, the employees of the women's shelter wanted to inform about their work on Schrannenplatz in Erding today and encourage those affected or their relatives to seek help.

Due to the corona, the “Tulips instead of violets” campaign has to be postponed to 2021.

As a replacement, a small internet campaign will be started on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).

The contributions can be found on a weekly basis under the hashtag # brkhilfefürrauen.
