This makeshift ship, occupied by about thirty people, capsized on Tuesday around 7:30 p.m. as it approached the coast of this island in the Canary archipelago.

Four victims were found Tuesday evening.

Lanzarote's director of emergencies and security, Enrique Espinosa, said overnight that there were currently 28 survivors.

Since the start of the year, more than 18,000 African migrants have arrived in the Canaries, an archipelago located in the Atlantic Ocean off the northwest coast of the African continent.

According to the regional government of the Canaries, at least 500 people died during these extremely dangerous crossing attempts.

This situation revives the memory of the migration crisis of 2006, when 30,000 migrants landed on the islands of the archipelago.

Overwhelmed by this influx of migrants, the Spanish government of socialist Pedro Sanchez had temporary camps set up to accommodate up to 7,000 people and launched a diplomatic offensive in several African countries to try to slow the departure of migrants.
