Chancellor Merkel and the heads of government of the federal states laboriously agreed on new corona measures. But Schleswig-Holstein is leaving.

Schleswig-Holstein does not want to implement all the resolutions of the federal-state conference on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) spoke of a "special Schleswig-Holstein path" following the seven-hour negotiations between the state leaders and Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU).

In the decision paper, for example, in a footnote on the tightening of the contact restrictions, it says: "Schleswig-Holstein adheres to the applicable contact restrictions against the background of the nationwide infection process."

The other countries had agreed to only allow private meetings with a maximum of five people from a maximum of two households from December 1st to December 23rd.

In Schleswig-Holstein, the upper limit of ten people continues to apply in private areas - regardless of how many households are.

This means that the easing over the festive season in Schleswig-Holstein is no longer necessary.

"What is usual practice is also observed over the holidays in Schleswig-Holstein," said Günther.

He is generally critical of the exception rule for the holidays in the other 15 federal states.

"Especially over Christmas, especially on New Year's Eve, it would be in everyone's best interests if everyone held back there," said Günther.

Openings of zoos and nail salons

In addition, body-hugging service providers such as nail salons and massage practices, as well as zoos and animal parks, are to reopen in the northernmost state from next Monday.

Even with the stricter requirements for the retail trade and private meetings, Schleswig-Holstein will "not go along," said Günther.

It is true that “a common result was achieved”.

In some areas, however, the state government wants to take other measures than agreed.

In the retail sector in Schleswig-Holstein the stipulation of ten square meters of retail space per customer remains, regardless of the size of the store.

Dispute over financing for clinics

Günther also accused the federal government of having prevented improved financing of intensive care beds kept free for corona patients for the time being.

All 16 countries had spoken out in favor.

The federal government did not want to participate, said Günther.

The dispute over federal aid for intensive care beds kept free was one reason for the long deliberations.

So far, the federal government has only paid hospitals money for intensive care beds kept free if the seven-day value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in a region is over 70.

According to Günther, the federal states want to achieve an incidence value of 50.

Since the incidence value is below 70 in many regions in Schleswig-Holstein, many hospitals go away empty-handed.

This is not fair, said Günther.

At the switch it was decided to evaluate the financing of the intensive care beds again at the level of the health ministers, said Günther.

He regretted that a solution had not yet been reached.
