It was like going to watch him play at his house
.
With or without ball.
With or without hyphen.
With all his magic on and with that hug so hers, tight, passionate, that one would run out of air before starting the coverage.
That was the ritual of those unforgettable Mondays, at around 8.30pm, before the cameras of
La noche del 10
, the El Trece program
were turned
on, which baptized Diego Maradona as a great conductor.
More than a magazine, it
was a club of friends, but with all the production and seriousness of the case
.
Everyone around him, with Adrián Suar and
Pablo Codevilla
on the one hand and
Claudia Villafañe
on the other (perhaps the three of them together, but with each one's eyes set on different things).
Fifteen years have passed since that hit on Argentine television
, with a histrionic Diego, like a child with a new chiche.
TV studios were familiar, because since that unforgettable evening in
circular Saturdays
of
Pipo Mancera
the camera was in
love with him.
He followed him and showed him even with what was not seen.
He let himself go through body and soul
.
Sergio Goycochea and Diego Maradona.
Clarín witnessed those unforgettable Mondays.
And that's how it was every time he stepped on a channel in Argentina, in Spain, in Italy, in the corner of the world where he landed for football or for life itself.
For this reason, when in 2005 the proposal came to him to have his own show, he thought about it a lot, but he accepted with enthusiasm.
He knew how to play, Diego.
Whatever
.
The program, with general production by
Eduardo
Coco
Fernández
,
began on August 15, 2005
.
And there we were,
Clarín's
chronicler and photographer
, to show his debut,
to tell about it in the Spectacles section of the paper on Tuesday
, in an edition that was only open waiting for that material that did not travel with the technological facilities of these days.
Sometimes it came by fax, sometimes by a system that required 10 or 15 minutes of transmission, many by telephone dictation.
But it
always came, Diego deserved it
.
And what seemed like the coverage of "the" night of the 10th, ended up being that of
"the" nights of the 10th
.
On Mondays of that single 13-episode season, we would go to Martinez's studios to
witness an unbeatable program
.
Diego Maradona and Raffaella Carrá, in a show to rent balconies.
It was hilarious.
The first day was
"Hello, I am a journalist from
Clarín
.
"
And the return was, as I have tattooed in my memory:
“Hi, I'm Diego.
What is your name?
(...) Silvina as Silvina Ocampo?
Put yourself where you want, but beware that the camera takes everything.
Tell what you want ”
.
And so it was, with the wink of Claudia and
Dalma
, who let me spy the preview, with the kisses of luck, the cabals (
there was a yellow tape, stuck to the floor, just before entering the studio, that he jumped just in case
), the review of some phrases he had to say on the air, the makeup touch-ups for
skin that perspired as much as his T-shirts did
.
Of all those magical nights,
the best behind the scenes of The Night of the 10 was by far the Maradona interview with Maradona
.
"They are crazy?
How are we going to do this?
Production explained that he would sit at the table and ask Diego what he wanted.
It was recorded, with the camera only focusing on him.
And once I asked,
the Diego who answered was Pablo Codevilla
, whom we saw in the shadows, during the recording, but the camera did not take him.
That gave the note rhythm.
Mike Tyson and Diego Maradona, in November 2005.
Then
take two: changing chairs
.
And now,
the Diego who answered was the Diego of the people
.
Later, thanks to the fantasy of the edition, and with the program already started, the interview could be seen: it
was Diego vs. Diego.
And, as yapa for those of us who were there, it was to see Diego standing next to him and saying every two minutes
'what gave birth to him'
.
-Maradona asks, black jacket, white shirt:
Do you want us to start?
-Maradona responds, gray shirt, cross in sight: Let's
start, hit it.
-Maradona:
Tell me, who are you going to vote for?
-Maradona:
No, I'm one more indecisive.
I would have to be close to Macri, because he is the president of Boca, but I read that way ... I still haven't talked to Mauricio, but I read that he goes with Duhalde and if he goes with Duhalde I don't vote.
If he goes with Duhalde I definitely don't vote for him.
Bielsa does not transmit anything to me, Carrió is unpresentable .. So I'm…
-Maradona:
You're undecided like me, right?
-Maradona
: Yes, I'm like the defense of Tire.
That was Diego, playful, authentic, militant to say what he thought to anyone
.
Especially before himself.
Diego Maradona and Fidel Castro, together, 15 years ago.
On the night of the 10th he
was awarded the
figure of the year at the Clarín Espectáculos Awards ceremony
that year, among other statuettes, and international recognition, beyond his sporting glory.
He was a character capable of achieving whatever he wanted.
The rating needle soared in the presence of his and his guests:
Pelé, Fidel Castro, Raffaella Carrá, Ricardo Arjona
, half the world.
He debuted with an average of 29.6 points and
reached the 40
mark
.
Diego knew how to kick beyond the barrier.
Each gala ended with a soccer-tennis chop with the guests.
And every night, with the cameras turned off, he closed, at least for me, with the question of complicity:
"How did you see him today, blonde?"
Many times I asked Suar to do everything possible so that the
night of the 10 would come back
.
It could not be.
But when it was, it was a great goal.
And for me it
was like playing with Diego once a week, in the little game on Mondays
.
