Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is organizing his country increasingly authoritarian, sealing it off from those seeking protection and restricting the freedom of the press.

The European Union is forcing Orbán into a budget dispute, and several unprecedented criminal proceedings are already underway for violations of the rule of law.

Example of "hatred and anger" in the world

It was against this background that Hollywood star George Clooney interfered in Hungarian politics.

Clooney, who is known for his humanitarian commitment, named the right-wing conservative Orbán and Hungary in an interview with the magazine »GQ« last week as examples of »hatred and anger« in the world.

The Hungarian government reacted angrily and accused the actor of "limited" knowledge of history and politics.

"We like George Clooney as an actor," wrote Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on Facebook.

Apparently, however, he knows little about history and politics.

A government spokesman in Budapest had previously said that Clooney would be controlled by US investor George Soros.

Orbán's government uses the Hungarian-born Soros as a scapegoat and spreads many anti-Semitic clichés about the investor.

Together with Poland, Hungary is currently blocking the EU budget.

The governments in Warsaw and Budapest criticize plans to cut EU funds if the rule of law is violated.

Hungary and Poland therefore vetoed the entire EU budget package of EUR 1.8 trillion on Monday.

The disbursement of money from the 750 billion euros Corona aid fund could therefore be delayed.
