In the next stage, workers in the veterinary medicine manufacturing and trade sector seek to coordinate and develop work with the Ministry of Agriculture to improve the quality of veterinary medicines and to overcome the difficulties that hinder the development of their production, thus contributing to the opening of new foreign markets for the local veterinary medicinal product, which has a good international reputation.

SANA Economic Monitor monitored the concerns and demands of the owners of laboratories and importers of veterinary medicines and their proposals to develop this sector. Engineer Anas Nashwati (a worker in the field of importing vaccines and feed supplements) pointed out the need to study the problems between the producer and the importer and treat them because the ultimate goal is to ensure that a good product reaches the farmer or the breeder that meets his requirements by improving Productivity with the need to focus on the standard specification for export products.

For his part, Engineer Zuhair Qazwini (Director of a company for the manufacture of veterinary medicines) spoke about the most important difficulties facing the local veterinary pharmaceutical industry, represented by the difficulty of importing the raw materials necessary for its manufacture as a result of unilateral coercive economic measures on Syria and the delay in shipping or the arrival of documents, calling for the provision of facilities in line with these difficulties and supervision And continuous control over the quality of products and their pricing.

Veterinarian Dr. Iyad Shaqfa explained that the veterinary drug laboratories were affected by the unjust economic blockade on Syria, but despite the war and siege conditions, they withstood and did not stop working and took an active role in securing veterinary medicine for various types of livestock, indicating that securing the national veterinary medicine with high quality contributed to reducing the costs of animal production in addition To provide foreign exchange and dispense with the importer.

In Syria, there are 70 veterinary drug laboratories working at their maximum capacity to secure a large part of the local market need, according to the head of the Syrian Veterinary Medicines Association, Dr. George Khoury, who stressed the need for cooperation and striving to overcome the difficulties and challenges facing specialists in this sector, especially in aspects of the manufacturing process, its development and securing raw materials. Necessary for the continuation of its work and the creation of export markets in a way that creates a kind of real competition in the veterinary drug industry.

For his part, Director of Veterinary Medicines at the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Ziyad Nammour, pointed out that local veterinary medicines were able during the years of the war imposed on Syria to secure a large part of the needs of the livestock sector and supply the treasury with a small portion of foreign exchange by exporting these products abroad, pointing to the quality of vaccines. Preventive veterinary provided by the Ministry of Agriculture to livestock breeders free of charge.

Nammour revealed that currently, according to the legislation in force in the ministry, there is rationalization of importing foreign preparations, as it is forbidden to import any foreign product produced in five local laboratories.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform is working to regulate the veterinary medicine industry by Law 18 of 2004 and the subsequent legislations and regulatory decisions that provide for the needs of livestock, carry out technical studies to license the production of local preparations and approve them in accordance with international standards and supervise their circulation in the market while creating opportunities for their export to regional and global markets.
