Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited a home for battered women today (Wednesday) and noted that he was instructed to hold staff work to establish the Authority for the Treatment of Domestic Violence.

The visit took place against the background of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

At the end of his visit with his wife Sarah Netanyahu to the WIZO emergency shelter, the Prime Minister said: "We came here for a heartbreaking, very exciting visit. We met here two young women, mothers who had the courage to leave violent husbands, who even endangered their lives and children A new life begins. "

After a conversation with several women living in the shelter, Netanyahu said that domestic violence increased during the Corona crisis and against this background, NIS 10 million was allocated as "first aid."

Mrs. Sarah Netanyahu said at the end of the visit that as part of her work as a psychologist, she met with two young women who had gathered courage and left with their children, while many others feared that the authorities would not help them.

"The call is for law enforcement. When a woman comes to complain - it should not be treated with contempt. The second thing is to help women in the rehabilitation process find employment and livelihood, otherwise many times women go back to the beating man. It is really destructive and sometimes terminal," she said.

WIZO chairwoman Anita Friedman thanked for the visit to the shelter and the recent government measures. “The women in the shelter have suffered severe violence and oppression, as have tens of thousands of other women and their children.

It is the responsibility of all of us to allow them to live in security and dignity, "she said.
