Mulled wine and almond stands, a lively nativity scene, a snow cannon and live music: the Christmas market at Landgasthof Böck offers a lot of attractions.

But visitors don't explore it on foot - they sit in the car.

Unterbrunn - The year 2020 shows what is possible while sitting in the car - more than picking up food from your favorite Italian or watching films on the big screen.

Anjuli and Simon Wankerl, operators of Unterbrunn's Landgasthof Böck, have already proven their creativity this year with the “Maifest Drive-in”.

In early summer they and their employees passed half a chicken and pork knuckle through the car window, accompanied by alpine rock from the live band “Wuidara Pistols”.

This weekend it will be chestnuts, crepes, stews, sausages, hot caipirinha and mulled wine.

Because this time the Wankerls invite you to the Christkindlmarkt drive-in.

The cars should be in line in the Böck-Hof from Friday, November 27th to Sunday, November 29th, and from Friday, December 4th to Sunday, December 6th, from 2pm to 8pm.

“But people don't mind if they have to wait,” says Anjuli Wankerl from experience.

“You are not stressed in Corona times.

And we also provide highlights. "

Yes, there should be a lot to see from the car: snow from the cannon, a large Christmas carriage at the entrance and a living crib, represented by the Unterbrunn boys' association.

The lads will also be handing out market offer cards to the arriving guests a few hundred meters before they arrive at the first stand, the till.

Mulled wine in the bottle - or directly in the thermos

Anjuli Wankerl will sit there, next to Christmas stollen, cookies and homemade schnapps.

Drivers can order from her, pay in cash and with an EC card.

At the next booth, they get the Christmas products they have ordered - “like at McDonald's,” says Wankerl.

Incidentally, you can buy the mulled wine in the bottle for home, but you can also have it filled into the thermos on site.

The large courtyard in the Unterbrunn district of Gautingen is perfect for the drive-in.

Thanks to two entrances, you can guarantee a one-way street, explains Wankerl.

She has been doing the preparations for more than two weeks.

Fairy lights had to be hung up and the stalls placed.

The municipality of Gauting provides four of them, Mayor Dr.

Brigitte Kössinger campaigned for it, says Wankerl.

On Tuesday, 60 Christmas trees were delivered for sale.

As with the May Festival drive-in, there is support from the Eberhardt family.

At her stand she offers sweets such as roasted almonds or gingerbread.

"It's about keeping our employees busy"

If you ask the inn owner why she and her husband are getting all this off the ground, she has several answers ready.

Giving people a good time, or more precisely, "ten minutes of the magic of Christmas" is one of them.

The second: “We have to have something to do.

Otherwise we are incredibly boring. ”With the third answer, Wankerl sounds a little more serious:“ It's about keeping our employees busy and retaining them. ”

The choice for the car Christmas market was also made for safety reasons.

“This way, there is no crowd in front of the to-go booths.

Protection against infection is very important to us, ”says the restaurateur.

That's why there are no bands with a full line-up.

But solo musicians.

Erik Berthold from Weßling and Matthi Birkmeyer, front man of the “Wuidara Pistols”, will be out and about between the cars with their guitars.
