While the autumn corona wave led to new infection records in many cases, Finland was largely spared from violent rashes.

One of the leading experts of the World Health Organization, the Briton David Nabarro, considers the country to be "a role model" among European countries.

"We find a lot of things in the Finns that I think are crucial in the fight against the virus: good political leadership, a strong public health system and people who stick to the rules," Nabarro recently told SPIEGEL.

According to the latest data from the European disease protection authority ECDC, the 14-day infection rate across Europe is only lower in Iceland than in Finland.

The Finnish health authorities are currently registering an increase in new Covid 19 diseases.

But the particularly affected region around the capital Helsinki reacted quickly with targeted countermeasures.

There was never a hard lockdown like the one Italy or Spain went through in Finland.

That is why the country has come through the crisis well economically.

In the second quarter, economic output fell by only 4.4 percent compared to the first - this is the best value in the EU.

In the “Covid Resilience Ranking” published by the Bloomberg agency on Tuesday, Finland also takes the top spot in Europe.
