Criticized by some, expected by others, 5G is arousing unparalleled interest in a new generation of mobile telephony.
Even before its launch, consumers began to subscribe to subscriptions compatible with this technology, offered by three of the four national mobile operators.
“
The launch of the range was a real success,
” says Fabienne Dulac, CEO of Orange France at Le Figaro.
The operator launched its 5G-compatible plans in early October, while the service will not be available until December 3.
The cheapest subscription is 24.99 euros per month for one year, then 39.99 euros, for 70 GB of mobile data.
This increase in data envelopes responds to "the
expectations of consumers who have more recurring connection needs.
», Explains Fabienne Dulac.
Teleworking, distance education, communication with loved ones ... the range of expectations is wide.
In addition, Orange took the opportunity to launch multi-SIM offers, allowing a smartphone and a tablet to be connected at the same time, for example.
SFR and Bouygues Telecom make the same observation, the 5G packages they offer are getting off to a good start.
Consumers are adapting
Having the right package is not enough, you also need the right smartphone.
Strictly speaking, there is no rush for compatible phones, but rather a renewal of the fleet over time.
Consumers who change their phone because the old one no longer works learn about technological developments.
“
Some take the opportunity to opt for 5G terminals in order to have the right equipment when the network is available,
” adds Fabienne Dulac.
In the meantime, they are using 4G.
Remember, for all practical purposes, 5G packages also work with 4G, 3G and 2G.
Consumers are therefore first and foremost attracted by a larger envelope of mobile data, then by the possibility of benefiting from 5G and its faster speeds, when it is launched in their region.
Since the start of the 1st containment, Internet traffic has grown by 40%.
This goes hand in hand with improving 4G coverage.
"
By the end of the year, 100% of our antennas will be 4G,
" adds Fabienne Dulac.
At SFR, more than 99% are already 4G.
