The stormy weather continued today (Thursday) and with it the flooding across the country.

There has been a significant drop in temperatures below normal for the season, and in the north of the country and on the coastal plain it will continue to rain intermittently, and there may be occasional thunderstorms.

Dozens of hotspots across the country were flooded due to heavy rains, especially in the Sharon and central areas, including military bases, and property and infrastructure were damaged.

Currently, it is raining in the northern Negev, the Dead Sea and the Judean Mountains.

The showers that fell in the northern and central areas have weakened, but they are expected to resume tonight.

Flooding in Ashkelon, today (Photo: Ashkelon Municipality Spokeswoman)

Following the heavy rains, the intelligence base in the Glilot was flooded, and soldiers serving there reported damage to offices and residences.

Following the floods, the soldiers were evacuated from the base in operational activities to other offices.

The servants in Glilot said that the base knows how to function in events of this type of evacuation, and that the activity is carried out from other places as well.

However, the urgency and response given only at the last minute indicates gaps in preparing for the harsh weather conditions that plague the area each year.

"This is an old base with very old infrastructure, and its geographical location is challenging. If you know that every year there are floods inside the base and they do not take care of it - it is helplessness. Personal equipment was damaged," the soldiers said.

"Where is the readiness and readiness of the camp commanders? It starts with seemingly small incidents that could have ended in disaster - from slipping, drowning to electric shock. Not to mention the cost of infrastructure damage."

The servants in the Glilot even rejected the allegations that the operational activity was not harmed and claimed that "soldiers who were supposed to be on shifts helped evacuate equipment and scans."

In addition to the Glilot base, infrastructure damage was also caused to buds and sparks that are very close to the sea, as well as in Camp 80. Construction crews jumped to several points to provide a point-by-point response to power outages, floods, and damage to infrastructure essential to base activity.

"Water went into all the stores."

Flooding in Baqa al-Gharbiya, today

Significant floods were also recorded in Baqa al-Gharbiya, damaging buildings and vehicles.

"There are always floods here, but this year even more," says Walla!

NEWS Malek Avisat, owner of the old "Osama Cafe" in the locality.

"Four cars sank right next to me and my vehicle was also damaged. Water entered all the shops along the axis," said Avisat.

"The municipality and the police are closing the street according to the situation and the municipality has set up an emergency team here 24/7 to help."

He added that "the main problem is that these heavy rains caught us before they finished the works on the road."

On normal days, 80 people can sit in his cafe, which was founded about 30 years ago.

Now, due to the corona, it operates in a self-collection format only, a service that is not entirely possible due to the floods.

"It hurts business a lot, no doubt," Awissat said.
