Four students are on trial for involvement in the murder of teacher Samuel Patti, a source in the French justice system said today (Thursday).

Three other boys were charged with involvement in a terrorist attack last month, in which the teacher was beheaded after presenting illustrations of the Prophet Muhammad as part of a lesson on freedom of expression.

Three of the boys today were indicted on charges of identifying Patti in front of 18-year-old terrorist Abdullah Anzorov, who followed him and beheaded him near his school on the outskirts of Paris.

Anzorov, whose origin was Chechen, was shot dead by police near the scene.

He paid several hundred euros to the students for their help.

The three, aged 13 and 14, are charged with "conspiracy to commit the offense of terrorist murder."

The fourth is the daughter of Ibrahim Shanina, who ran a vigorous online campaign against Patti, which featured the illustrations published by the satirical magazine "Charlie the Bedouin".

Shanina, as well as the extremist preacher 'Abd al-Hakim Safrivi, who led the campaign with him, have already been charged with involvement in the murder.

His daughter is accused of abusing the teacher, after describing what allegedly happened in class - even though she was not present at all.

They complained to police about Patti's "discrimination" a week before the murder, claiming he marked the Muslims in the class when he asked them to leave the class before presenting the cartoons.

Others said the teacher simply said that students are free to leave the classroom if they do not want to see the illustrations, in one of which Muhammad is seen naked.

The source added that all four boys were arrested for a short time earlier this week, at the request of anti-terrorism investigators, and they were released under legal supervision.

A total of 14 people are on trial as part of the murder investigation, which caused outrage and shock in France.

Since then, President Emanuel Macron has ordered a fight against radical Islam in the country, which has suffered a wave of terrorist attacks since 2015, in which hundreds of people were killed.

Macron's reaction provoked outrage against him throughout the Muslim world, which included demonstrations of outrage and even harm to French targets.
