A very violent fire broke out this Thursday afternoon in a small apartment building on rue Antoine-Bourdelle, near Montparnasse (15th century).
He is probably the cause of a death.
After controlling the flames, the firefighters discovered a man in his sixties, lifeless in the courtyard of the building below the apartment ravaged by the fire.
Despite his care in the resuscitation ambulance of the BSPP (Paris fire brigade), the victim could not be resuscitated.
It could be the occupant of the apartment on the 4th floor where the disaster broke out, who would have cleared the window in a movement of panic.
Late Thursday afternoon, the hypothesis of a fatal fall had not yet been confirmed.
Found on the roof of a small workshop
When the firefighters intervened on the spot, shortly after the alert given at 3 p.m., a small apartment of 25 m2 located on the top floor of the building was already entirely invaded by the fire which was beginning to reach the attic and the roof.
About ten occupants of the building were evacuated without difficulty by the firefighters who then attacked the flames in the apartment and on the roof.
It was only then, while carrying out the reconnaissance in the damaged apartment that the firefighters discovered, through the window that remained open, the body below.
“The victim fell on the roof of a small workshop on the courtyard.
It was not immediately visible to the troops who were on the ground floor, ”explains Commander Guillaume Fresse, spokesperson for the BSPP.
In addition to the apartment on the 4th floor, the fire destroyed part of the building's 200m2 roof.
The disaster generated a plume of smoke visible from all south of the capital.
Thursday evening, its origin remained undetermined.
