Because of the Corona crisis, the Rotary Club Weilheim had a premiere - in the form of a "technical experiment", as Beate Sitek, head of the local grammar school, put it: The career advice that Rotarians provide with the grammar school and the employment agency have been offering for many years, this time it took place online.

Weilheim

- More than 60 consultants who presented professions and courses from different areas were present at the career advice on a grand scale - and made sure that the "experiment" was successful.

Doctors provided information about their work, as did lawyers and teachers.

Of the 80 planned online conferences in two rounds, only one did not take place, all the others came about, as Christian Lübbers noted with satisfaction.

The doctor was responsible for organizing the consultation for the Rotary club.

If the school gong and announcements normally provide orientation during the consultation evening, the invited pupils had received links this time with which they could take part in the online conferences, for example via “Zoom” and “Skype”.

Almost 500 students were expected to take part.

The “Weilheimer Tagblatt” was also represented at the consultation evening

This time, too, there was the opportunity to ask questions during the consultation, either verbally or in writing via the so-called chat function.

In this way, pupils from grammar schools in Weilheim, Tutzing, Starnberg and Icking were able to get a lot of information about their career choice - regardless of whether they were interested in a job at the bank or in studying computer science.

An editor of the “Weilheimer Tagblatt” also gave information on the professional field of “journalism”.

At the online final round for the consultants, there was a lot of positive feedback for the organizers.

However, some were dissatisfied with the fact that many students had switched off their cameras and were thus not visible to the advisors.

The response to what is now the 27th career counseling of the Rotary Club Weilheim is being researched beyond the final round: Both the counselors and the students can use questionnaires to give their opinion on the major online event.
