(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 26 - The European Researchers' Night does not stop: it faces the challenge posed by the pandemic and transfers its appointments online.

The new edition of the event, promoted since 2005 by the European Commission, will take place tomorrow, Friday 27 November, when thousands of Italian and international researchers will meet virtually hundreds of thousands of people of all ages.

An unprecedented way of reaching citizens, but always with the aim of making known the role and value of research in society and for the future, highlighting its impact on our daily life and encouraging young people to face scientific careers.

The possibility of meeting researchers and finding reliable interlocutors can represent a precious opportunity for everyone to orient themselves in this phase of great collective uncertainty.

"The pandemic forces us to a new, unprecedented, virtual format - underlines Minister Gaetano Manfredi - but this event continues to represent a precious informal opportunity to spread scientific culture. The desire of the researchers to tell and tell about themselves, to make people understand the value of research, remains intact. as a common good and as an essential element to face the global challenges of the future: clean energy, new technologies, digital, medicine, agriculture. In this sense, the seven projects funded by the European Commission and supported by the Ministry of University and Research represent our pride. Researchers' night resists beyond the pandemic and does not stop. Just like research ".

Over the years, the initiative has established itself as a unique opportunity to explore the most current research topics and has assumed a growing popularity among the general public: in 2019 the visitors who participated in the initiatives of the night were over 1.6 million, 400 cities across Europe.

The 2020 edition program offers thousands of meetings: virtual workshops, online shows, games, interactive dissemination activities, conferences, cultural and entertainment events.

Seven Italian projects financed by the European Commission and supported by the Ministry of University and Research which will involve 84 cities: BRIGHT-NIGHT (coordinated by the University of Florence), ERN APULIA (coordinated by the University of Salento), MEETmeTONIGHT (coordinated by the University of Milan) -Bicocca), Science Together NET (coordinated by the CNR), SHARPER (coordinated by Psiquadro - a social science communication company), SOCIETY NEXT (coordinated by the CINECA inter-university consortium) and SUPERCIENCEME (coordinated by the University of Calabria).

RAI, through the thematic channels Rai Cultura and Rai Scuola, dedicates a special web to the Italian Researchers' Night made up of news, events and activities of the seven projects, links to platforms for the enjoyment of events, images and videos.
