While around the world the race to get effective vaccines against the corona virus is intensifying, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has other plans.

In a statement released tonight (Thursday-Friday), Bolsonaro announced that he has no plans to get vaccinated against the virus.

In a statement posted on social media, Bolsonaro stressed that he does not intend to get vaccinated against the corona virus and even hinted that the Brazilian Congress is not expected to advance legislation that will force the country’s citizens to get vaccinated.

Bolsonaro said: "I tell you, I'm not going to get vaccinated, it's my right."

Continuing his remarks, Bolsonaro went on to express a skeptical stance regarding the use of masks in order to prevent infection in the corona.

Among other things, he argued that the evidence regarding the effectiveness of mask wearing is inconclusive and in fact flawed.

In terms of morbidity, Brazil is in third place in the world (after the US and India) in terms of the total number of patients verified in the country since the outbreak and stands at 6,204,570 verified patients. With 171,497 dead from the plague.

The Chinese vaccine is tearing Brazil apart

On the other hand, the governor of Sao Paulo, Joao Doria, is not afraid to confront the President of Brazil on the front lines regarding the use of vaccines.

Doria said tonight that he is promoting the use of the Sinobak company's Chinese vaccine in Sao Paulo, even if the health regulator in Brazil does not approve its use.

Joao Doria addressed the issue, saying: "Today there is concern that Anbisa (Brazil's health regulator) may suffer from political interference from the presidency, and not act as an independent agency as it should and must be."

A little over two weeks ago, the President of Brazil sharply criticized the Sinobak vaccine and its origin in China.

So, after it was decided to suspend the country's clinical trial of the Chinese company's corona virus vaccine, a suspension that has since been lifted, Bolsonaro welcomed the decision to halt the attempt and even called it a 'great victory'.
