A huge volume of parcels is expected in Munich in the run-up to Christmas.

Problematic in Corona times.

New parcel buses from Deutsche Post provide relief.

  • The

    Advent season

begins - and the population will probably send more packages than usual.

  • The

    German post office

expects an increased volume due to the

    Corona pandemic *

    .

  • To avoid long queues and infections, a mobile solution is coming to Munich *.

Munich - A branch on four wheels - with this idea, the

Post

wants to

cope with

the rush around the holidays.

At four locations, the Munich-based company can now hand in their packages and also pick up shipments - and all of this in the fresh air, i.e.

virtually infection-proof *

.

In addition, the parcel buses are intended to straighten out the situation in the branches, where long queues regularly form.

"The DHL parcel buses are a modern, mobile add-on solution with which we can offer our customers even more service in the run-up to Christmas and streamline customer flows in the branches," says Bettina Altschäffl, Head of the Munich branch of the

Deutsche Post DHL Group

.

The parcels must be franked when they are handed in, because postage stamps are not sold on the parcel buses.

Munich: Due to Corona - Post expects significantly more parcel deliveries

According to the company, a parcel bus can accept 300 parcels - as many as several parcel shops.

In total,

DHL

operates

around 130 branches and 160 parcel shops in the city, plus 140 packing stations.

These are preparing for an unprecedented onslaught.

Germans are ordering more and more gifts online, and this year more people are likely to refrain from visiting their families and prefer to send a package.

That is why Swiss Post is expecting

many more parcels

this year

than in previous years

.

On an average day, the company transports 5.2 million parcels - in the coming weeks, Swiss Post is expecting over eleven million parcels per day.

Munich: These are the places where you will find the Deutsche Post mobile stations

Mobile branches stop at four locations: The

parcel buses park

on

Theresienwiese

and

Heidemannstrasse 220

(Freimanner Heide) until January 15, 2021. A

street scooter, a smaller version of the parcel bus, now stops at

Tegernseer Landstrasse 181

(Giesing).

This holds 150 packages, as much as another trailer that will be at

Untermenzinger Straße 2

(Moosach)

from November 30th

.

These stations are open Monday to Friday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
