The municipal department in Munich wants to modernize the recycling islands in the city.
Different variants are available.
Which model will you choose?
Waste disposal
is an important global issue.
The solutions for this can be expanded.
Contact points for
recycling in Munich *
are recycling centers and recycling islands.
The city is planning a comprehensive
modernization of
the almost 1,000 locations.
With which solution?
Munich - Local authority officer Kristina Frank (CSU) wants to gradually
replace
the containers on the
921 recycling islands in Munich
.
There are various bins to choose from, including variants that are partly underground or camouflaged as advertising pillars.
The city has 921 recycling islands with around
5000 containers
.
Garbage disposal has been carried out by the Dual System Deutschland (DSD) since 1993.
After the contract was signed, the DSD also took over the depot container system for the disposal of glass, metal and lightweight packaging made of plastics and composite materials, which was set up by the Waste Management Office at the time.
The operation of this system was
outsourced
to
waste disposal
companies.
Munich: Separation of recyclable materials is being renewed across the board at hundreds of locations
With the takeover of the collection system for packaging by the DSD, the
wild growth at the container
locations was also to be
contained
.
Until then, different types of containers in different colors had stood in around 500 locations in the city.
Since the system was completely rebuilt, the city had an influence on the choice of container.
The beige barrels that can still be seen today were chosen.
Nevertheless, there is always anger and angry residents.
But they are now obsolete.
"At the beginning of 2021 we can negotiate new container models with the dual system," says Frank.
"Our wish is to get the responsible operating companies to gradually use containers that meet current and future requirements in terms of aesthetics and accessibility." The municipal committee will deal with the proposal next week to move the containers into the next Years to be exchanged successively.
Advised costs: around
five million euros
.
Munich: New recycling islands as advertising pillar - Or would you prefer art?
The city council has to decide what the new containers should look like.
There are those like in Cologne that can also be used as
advertising pillars
;
Containers that are buried in parts.
Or containers that can also be used for
street art
.
Frank: "With 950 recycling islands that will take time and money on the part of the operator, but at some point you have to start."
Although the Federal Environment Agency claims that Germany is among the
best in the
world
when it comes to
plastic recycling
, the truth is different - also in Munich.
We clear up the big garbage lie.
