So far it has been said that the dismantling of the war memorial in Schliersee took place in consultation with the mountain riflemen.

But the captain disagrees.

Schliersee

- The war memorial at the town hall in Schliersee has disappeared (we report).

Contrary to what was shown, the mountain riflemen did not give their okay for this.

At least not in the person of Captain Michael Ausfelder.

“Nobody talked to me,” he says.

Mayor Franz Schnitzenbaumer (CSU) confirmed this on request, but his presentation in the main committee allowed this conclusion.

He was probably referring to conversations with other mountain riflemen, the town hall chief continued.

War memorial will be erected a few meters further

At least he can give Ausfelder, who would have “disagreed” with the removal, the prospect of a re-erection of the war memorial.

The plaque, if not the entire wall, will be rebuilt on the other side of the street, right next to the homecoming grotto on the vineyard - and a memorial plaque for the missing and dead of all wars on top of that.

This should take place next spring.

Origin of the monument uncertain

Schnitzenbaumer is meanwhile little known about the background of the monument.

“We don't have any documents on this,” he says.

The plaque and wall must have been built in the 1940s.

The same decade also saw the consecration of the Nikolaus Chapel in the cemetery as a war memorial chapel.

This is where the commemorations take place, and the names of those who died in the world wars are listed here, says Schnitzenbaumer.

The sidewalk at the town hall may be finished this year

As reported, the community has removed the monument because they want to redesign the town hall forecourt.

The mayor is particularly interested in the walkway along the small park.

And if the weather stays stable, Schnitzenbaumer hopes that it could go a long way this year.

The next step is then to move the stairs a good bit towards the vineyard and remove the small exposed aggregate concrete desert, which may not fit in with the historic town hall.
