André owes them his life.

On Friday, November 13, he was saved from certain death after a heart attack thanks to the intervention of Olivier and William, two residents who were alerted by the Samu thanks to the Sauv life application.

Aged 80, this inhabitant of Bouray-sur-Juine, is recovering from his operation today and is learning to live with his pacemaker.

That evening, it was a little after 11 p.m. when André was faint.

“He had his eyes on the ceiling.

I did it right away on the 15th, we have firefighters in the family who told me to dial this number, ”says Marie-Madeleine, André's wife.

On the phone, the Samu regulator tells him that the firefighters will arrive but that other rescuers have been notified.

And it does not take long.

In this village of 2,100 souls in the south of Essonne, a first man arrives at the door of the pavilion.

It's William, a neighbor who lives a hundred yards away.

"Without thinking, we each agreed to intervene"

"He didn't even take the time to put on a waistcoat, there are 13 steps to go up to the bedroom, he went at breakneck speed."

A former lifeguard swimmer, he was alerted thanks to the app on which he registered “two or three years ago”.

“I have only been triggered once before,” he explains.

But when I arrived, there were already the firefighters.

I did not need to intervene ”.

At André's, he got there very quickly.

“In 1 minute 30”, he explains.

The octogenarian is lying on his bed.

After a quick assessment, he noticed that the heart was no longer beating and began to do the cardiac massage after having lowered André to the ground.

barely three minutes later, Olivier also arrives.

He is a policeman by profession and a volunteer firefighter in Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois.

He was present in the neighborhood because he helps a neighbor with her shopping.

He and his wife have been registered on the app for 2 years.

“We were 650 meters from home.

Without thinking for a second we each agreed to intervene, we grabbed gloves and masks, ”rewinds Olivier, still moved by this intervention.

"During a cardiac arrest, the chances of survival decrease by 10% per minute, it is necessary to intervene very quickly", he adds.

André had three cardiac arrests on the operating table

William and Olivier take turns to massage while Sandie, Olivier's wife, takes care of Marie-Madeleine under the influence of emotion.

The pulse starts again.

“There was a movement of the abdomen.

It could be a gasp (Editor's note: it makes you think of breathing, but it's just a reflex of the body), continues Olivier.

It was necessary to continue to massage ”.

The emergency services, firefighters and Smur, finally arrived 15 minutes after the first call.

Without the triggering of the alert on Sauv life, André would have died.

"This is the first time that I have to perform a cardiac massage in my private life", continues Olivier.

André was transported to the private hospital of Charmilles in Arpajon where he was expected the same evening to have a pacemaker fitted.

On the operating table, he had three cardiac arrests before his condition finally stabilized.

"It was a crazy night, the cardiologist said he's a miracle," continues Marie-Madeleine.

Olivier concludes: "We will remember this Friday the 13th for a long time".

The two rescuers have since returned to see Marie-Madeleine on several occasions and remain in contact.

79 lives saved

Since the app was created in 2017, there have been 79 “hearts saved”.

341,316 people downloaded sauv life and are currently registered as “citizen rescuers”.

Sauv life has been deployed with the Sdis and Samu of all the Ile-de-France departments.

However, this is not yet the case in the Oise.
