François d'Orcival: "Notre-Dame de Paris again in danger?"

CHRONICLE - The controversy has swelled since Bishop Aupetit announced that he wanted to modernize the interior of the cathedral.


Second meeting in six months.

Constituted on March 27 by General Jean-Louis Georgelin (the former chief of staff of the armed forces and then Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor who became president of the public establishment of Notre-Dame de Paris), the council scientist in charge of the restoration of the cathedral has 14 members - all experts in historical monuments (archeology, history, engineering, materials sciences and techniques).

The general has just brought them together by videoconference, due to the pandemic;

the first time was in the spring, rue de l'Elysée.

The address meant that the resurrection of Notre-Dame will have only one final responsible, the President of the Republic.

The scaffolding located at the crossing of the transepts of the cathedral is being dismantled.

The Archbishop of Paris, Mgr Michel Aupetit, hoped to see the restoration undertaken as early as January;

it will probably be later.

The reopening of Notre-Dame still remains fixed for the month of April
