Russia today renewed its strong criticism of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to the Israeli settlements in the recently occupied Syrian Golan, stressing that it constitutes evidence of Washington's disregard for international law and its disdain for its principles.
Sputnik quoted Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova as saying: “Pompeo's visit is another proof of Washington’s position that shows a disregard for international legal principles on settling the situation in the Middle East that are universally recognized,” explaining that the US administration’s attempts to legalize the “illegal” Israeli settlements In this way, it conflicts with the United Nations Charter and Security Council resolutions.
Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, strongly criticized during a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Syria the day before yesterday, Pompeo's visit to the Israeli settlements in the occupied Syrian Golan, stressing that it is a "provocation" and calling for preserving Syria's unity and respecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
