The director of the Iranian nuclear program, Muhsan Fahrizda, was assassinated today (Friday) in Absurd, Tehran, Al Arabiya and France 24 reported.

It is one of the most senior, if not the most senior, targets of thwarting Tehran's nuclear program - less than a year after the assassination of Quds Force commander Quds Force Suleimani.

Muhsan was one of the most influential and senior scientists in the field of scientific research on nuclear issues in the country and was the former head of the nuclear program in Iran.

He was the only scientist mentioned by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in his 2018 speech, in which he continues to play a significant role in the nuclear program.

It should be noted that a number of failed attempts to eliminate him have been reported in the past.

Unknown individuals reportedly arrived near him while in the northern Iranian city of Absurd and shot him in the head from zero range.

Iranian rescue forces who arrived at the scene rushed him to a hospital, where, according to reports, rescue attempts failed and declared him dead.

His face will be revealed to the whole world, and not just to international intelligence agencies, with the unveiling of Iran's nuclear weapons program in early 2018. The program began with the Amad project which was active from 2003-1999 and continued under a different name.

At the head of the same venture was Fahrizda under the Iranian Ministry of Defense.

The timing of the assassination in Tehran, according to the same reports, is unusual.

It is a few months before the inauguration of US President-elect Joe Biden, and the finger of blame for this assassination is expected to be pointed at Israel and the United States - even if they are not involved in the assassination.

After the assassination of Suleimani who fatally damaged Quds Force capabilities outside Iran, now its nuclear program could suffer a fatal blow with the assassination of one of its senior members.

An Iranian nuclear program spokesman, Bahruz Kamalondi, denied reports of the assassination of Fahrizadeh: "All scientists are well."
