Various medical services vary between curative and preventive programs and others for health education aimed at the early stages of life. The Regional Center for Guidance, Training and Oral Medicine Research of the Ministry of Education seeks to provide it to more than 200 students and students daily according to those in charge.
The regional center also carries out scientific research, school tours and educational courses and sends mobile clinics to provide treatment and medical publications in front of different schools with the aim of providing health awareness to students from first to sixth grade, according to the statement of the center's director, Dr. Imad Al-Naem, to the representative of SANA.
Al-Naem pointed out that the health education programs provided by the center's staff are directed at children from preschool age to the age of youth and adolescents, regarding information about the oral and dental problems that children suffer from, the mechanism of cleaning them, and how to break the fear barrier between them and the dentist.
As for the treatment program, it begins with the examination process for students in the center's clinics, to determine the problem of teeth or gums that the student suffers from. Accordingly, the treatment program is provided, and if he does not need treatment, he is provided with a preventive program to prevent tooth decay.
On the other hand, the training program at the center is concerned with training human personnel of all groups, “doctors, assistants, and health educators” and qualifying workers in the Ministry of Education from the educational staff to help implement some of the simple programs that the center works on.
The center also conducts epidemiological studies and research by diagnosing and determining the prevalence of epidemiological diseases related to oral and dental health among students and pupils of various ages from 4 years to 18 years and provides the directorates of education and school health departments with the necessary needs for that.
The center includes an integrated cadre of 5 specialists in pediatric dentistry, 8 general health dentists, 12 physician assistants, 35 health educators and administrative staff, and there are departments for producing educational tools, a laboratory to prepare the preventive materials needed to implement the programs and a library.
Dr. Ghinwa Sadaqni, a dentist at the center, indicated that she provides preventive and curative services for children from the age of 6 years and before, in addition to the awareness programs about teeth that health educators provide for this group through field trips to schools, indicating that the laboratory of the center produces medical fluorine in all its forms And distributes it to the provinces and fluorine acid to be distributed to schools.
For her part, the health assistant, Maysa Al-Masry, explained that her educational role is to hold sessions for students to teach them the correct way to clean the teeth, distribute brochures and models of teeth and gums for them to explain, and a booklet that carries simple ideas that students can understand in the elementary stage, and the completion of drawings and their coloring as part of a national campaign to protect teeth implemented by the center.
A number of students who receive therapeutic services at the center during their statements to SANA expressed the importance of awareness-raising and education courses that introduced them to the correct methods of dental care, as student Imran Eido, fourth grade of Al-Sharif Al-Radi School, stated that he benefited from these courses by knowing how to take care of his teeth hygiene and determine healthy foods And the natural juices that he must drink, while the student, Sadan Al-Shawakh, pointed out the importance of following the instructions they obtained to take care of the health of the mouth and teeth.
