The number 10 on the back, the passion for football and the love for the colors of the Argentine National Team, were some of the things that united Diego Maradona and Marcelo Gallardo.

They admired and loved each other.

Two unrivaled idols at rival clubs, but no personal enemies.

In life and in football.

Mutual idolatry could be seen everywhere.

The last iconic image, the last reunion between the two of them, was in River's match against Gimnasia in the Super League on September 28, 2019. That afternoon between laughter and hugs, all the affinity and admiration was noted.

That was recorded in a photograph that says everything, precisely

that same photo that the current "millionaire" technician has in his profile on his WhatsApp.

During that special hug, a few words symbol of that friendship also exchanged.

"I love you brother,

" Gallardo told him, to which Diego replied:

"You deserve everything you earned."

Undoubtedly a moment that will never be erased in the memory of many.

"Many things come to me in which one admired Diego as a player. He has given us many joys to Argentines as a footballer. I want him well, in good health and that he can enjoy the place where he is. When a soccer person recognizes you, one flatters him and fills me with pride,

"said Gallardo after his reunion with 10.

Like that hug, when

El Muñeco

arrived at the Casa Rosada and met Claudia Villafañe: Diego's ex-wife, who at the time was "the love of his life" and is the mother of two of his daughters (Dalma and Gianinna ), gave each other

a soul hug

.

One of those in which you say everything and nothing at the same time, in which

all the pain and love possible is transmitted.

The day that Maradona passed away, which will be remembered as one of the saddest in Argentine history, Marcelo Gallardo gathered all the River players, prior to training at River Camp, in Ezeiza, to remember the world idol.

Surely he told some anecdote and remembered it in the best way, as he always used to do.

Marcelo always thought about the good things Diego did, not only on the pitch but off it, with him.

"I played for the National Team and it was a very difficult stage because it was in the post-Maradona era. It didn't affect me because I played naturally as if I were doing it in the neighborhood pasture. Until one day I missed a penalty and felt that that naturalness he had was transformed into something heavier ”,

Gallardo said after the reunion with Maradona.

And he revealed that -immediately after that wrong penalty on the Quilmes court,

El Muñeco

 received

a special call

:

"So, at that moment, Diego called me on the phone to encourage me and told me to go ahead, that I had a lot of confidence in me. It was something surprising, he didn't have to do it ... He doesn't remember that around there; or maybe he does because he has a lot of memory. And I always remembered that attitude he had with me ",

explained the coach of the team of Nunez.

That is how he will always remember him, as the idol he was and all the goodness and affection that Diego had for Marcelo.

"He is a tremendous coach, he lives for this and directs how he played. He's like me, he thinks about the games attacking, with intensity, how we played on the court. He deserves everything that happened to him in River. But enough old man ... Even here you came, don't you want to leave anything for others? ", Maradona had expressed with a final smile, referring to River's coach.

A relationship of admiration and friendship that will be eternal.
