The working group to examine the distribution of corona vaccines, headed by the Director General of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Hezi Levy, met for the first time on Wednesday night, as part of preparations for an extensive vaccination campaign against the virus in Israel. The vaccinations will only be accepted after the companies have published the safety percentages.

What are the issues to be discussed in the committee?

The dedicated working group will examine the outlines of each vaccine, determine the population priority as well as the vaccines for vaccines.

Group members will also discuss the logistical aspects of corona vaccines, ethical and legal issues as well as other issues that will arise during the vaccination campaign.

One of the group members told Walla!

NEWS that compared to other vaccines, the financial issue has not come up at all.

"It's a different situation, because there was never a decision during an epidemic," he said.

"It's a new vaccine and it's important for us to be careful."

Who will be vaccinated first?

As part of the group's work, the population's preference for vaccine doses was determined.

Apparently, as with any vaccine, the first to receive it will be medical staff, the elderly population and people at risk.

That is, the group did not make a decision about which vaccine would be given, but who would receive it first.

Although the group has decided to give primacy to the elderly, there is also a concern.

Chances are they will not develop serious side effects, but it is not yet clear to what extent their immune system, which is not at its best naturally, will be able to absorb the new vaccine.

What about the side effects?

Until the vaccines are used in Israel, about 100,000 people will be vaccinated around the world.

So we will get information about the side effects, but we will not know for how long the vaccine works in the human body.

The State of Israel has, for the time being, purchased a number of vaccines double the amount of the population, so that the supply will be sufficient even in the event that it is necessary to vaccinate twice.

The group is also expected to discuss later the follow-up of data regarding side effects that occur in the vicinity of receiving a vaccine, as well as procedures and guidelines regarding those who have been vaccinated.

Committee members.

The group consists of 27 members from a variety of fields, including epidemiologists, epidemiologists and infectious diseases experts, and legal advisors who will examine the outlines of each vaccine.

Among the members of the group will be the director of the Epidemiology Division at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Emilia Anis, the director of the Department of Routine Immunizations at the Division, Dr. Eric Haas, the director of the Central Laboratory for Viruses at the Ministry of Health, Prof. Ella Mendelson.

However, in addition to the director of the National Center for Disease Control Prof. Little Keinan-Boker, and head of the infectious diseases unit at the center, Dr. Aharona Friedman.

Among the experts also director of the Infectious Diseases Unit, Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer Prof. Galia bravado, a virologist at the University of Tel Aviv University Prof. Eran Bakrach, Chief of Staff at Clalit Health Services Dr. Jan Miskin and Director of the Clinical Virology Unit at Hadassah Medical Center Prof. Dana Wolf.

The vaccines that are expected to arrive in Israel.

For the time being, Israel has signed a vaccination agreement with several companies: Pfizer, Moderna and Astraznica.

The three companies are expected to provide vaccines to 12 million people in Israel.

In all contracts, Israel has agreed to assume most of the responsibility for lawsuits for damages that may be caused by the vaccine.

With most companies, Israel even waived refunds if the vaccine did not work out.

Pfizer's vaccine, the most advanced company with 95% efficacy, will be given in two doses and within a few weeks of each other.

The vaccine should be kept in a deep freezer at 70 degrees for up to five days before administering the dose.

Israel has ordered eight million doses of it, which are four million vaccines, with the cost of each dose being $ 39.

Moderna's vaccine also recorded high efficiencies - 94.5% - while it should be kept refrigerated at 20 degrees.

These are easier conditions compared to Pfizer, partly because this is the temperature at which most vaccines are stored in Israel.

Moderna will supply Israel with six million doses, ie three million vaccines.

The cost of each serving ranges from $ 74-64.

Astraznica has also completed the third phase of its trial, and in the interim results its vaccine efficacy reaches up to 90%.

Israel purchased ten million rations from the company for five million citizens, with the cost of each ration being only eight dollars.

Israel hastened to sign with the British company after learning that it was about to publish the data, and did not want to be caught unprepared as in Pfizer's case.

Pfizer and Moderna's vaccine are working on a new technology that isolates and encodes the area where the virus is supposed to home.

Astrazenica's vaccine, on the other hand, is built on attenuated vaccines, known from previous vaccines, and is therefore considered safer.

However, the company announced last night that it would conduct a retest, following doubts about the reliability of the data.

When will the vaccines arrive in Israel?

Because none of the vaccines have yet been approved, it is not yet possible to know exactly when they will arrive in Israel.

However, there is an estimate that vaccinations may begin in Israel as early as 2021.

The pharmaceutical company Pfizer has submitted its proposal to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and discussions ahead of the approval will begin on December 10.

According to the company's announcement, about two weeks from the moment of approval, it will be able to distribute the vaccine.

The first swallow of 200,000 vaccines will probably arrive as early as January, but the company did not commit to a delivery date.

Modern has not yet submitted an application for approval to the FDA, but it is close to Pfizer's efficiency rate so this step may come soon.

However, because the order of distribution is determined by the order of signature - Israel will receive the modern vaccines only after the European Union and the United States.

Because Astrazanica is expected to be retested to test the effectiveness of the vaccine, the process of approval and delivery to Israel may take longer.

However, according to the CEO, there will be countries that will approve the Astraznica vaccine before the end of 2020.

What about the Russian vaccine?

Israel has also signed a contract to receive the Russian vaccine - Sputnik 5 - which recorded an effectiveness of 92%.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has already announced that he has purchased ten million rations.

However, the results of his clinical studies have not been published and there is no evidence of safety, effective dosing, biological evidence of an immune response or efficacy against the corona virus.

According to information received by Walla!

NEWS, The decision to purchase the Russian vaccine came due to diplomatic needs and to allow Israel flexibility and room for maneuver in IDF operations at Iranian facilities in Syria.

The fear of immunization.

The Ministry of Health will encourage Israelis to get vaccinated, but there will be no vaccine requirement.

The ministry is considering options to provide incentives to vaccinators such as waiving the obligation to isolate in the event of contact with a verified patient, but no sanctions will be imposed on those who choose not to be vaccinated.

Apart from the ministry's and the HMOs 'information about the importance and safety of the vaccine, the personal example of the medical staff - who will be vaccinated first, should significantly affect the Israelis' sense of trust in it.

As with any disease, it is not necessary for the entire population to be vaccinated, but in order to eradicate the epidemic as quickly as possible, the Ministry of Health strives to reach as many citizens as possible.

The logistical aspects.

The Group operates in parallel group is the CEO of the Ministry of Health, which focus on the logistics and transport, budget, information and computing and determining the method of vaccination organizational side, along with HMOs.

Group dealing with the logistical increased demand of HMOs allow them to vaccinate the insured vaccine of Pfizer branches as more vaccines, and establish an operation new with HFC or initiated externally. office considering the possibility of establishing several centers dedicated to the vaccine of Pfizer, and building outlines another, whereby each point will be given a vaccination will be the positions of the four funds.

requirement HMOs came following the announcement of the Pfizer , Which announced a few days ago that a vaccine can come out of the freezer about five days before it is injected into a vaccine and stay in a standard refrigerator at 8-2 degrees. And there is no need to set up a new system, but it is better to give budget additions to the funds.
